Baraja: "tHE TEAM kePT going AND COMPETED UNTIL THE END"
The Valencia CF coach talks after the 2-2 result against Deportivo Alavés
Valencia CF coach Voro González gave a press conference ahead of the LaLiga Matchday 20 game against Girona FC.
How do you see the squad ahead of the challenge of staying?
I think the squad look very good; they are aware of the situation. That is what is demanded. We were going to a very difficult ground.
Paulista's suspension
With that level of motivation, it can happen. Gabriel lost his head in that action and we have talked about it. We have to nip it in the bud, because we need everyone. These are things that are spoken bout so that they do not happen again.
What kind of team do you want to build?
Most of the time I have been coaching for short spells, except for 2016/17. The team have played 10 games in 35 days, which is a lot. We have players out, we have to handle the workload and we have to adapt. In the end, you come into a dressing room and you need to work to improve this, and we have not had time to do this. Days between matches are either post-game or pre-game. It is important to have time to work, but we already have a game on Sunday. We start the second half of the season and we go to Girona with the conviction of knowing what we have to do to compete very well.
Is beating Girona key to raising the squad's spirits?
The key is to win a game as soon as possible. We aren't looking any further than that. The closer we focus on our objectives, the better we will be able to compete. Everything is very evenly matched and it is not easy to beat anyone. We have to focus on ourselves and what qualities we should make stronger -and which ones to improve.
Do you have a clear style for the remainder of the season?
Beyond formations, I consider it more important that the players are clear about what they must do at all times, that there is a good attitude and that they have clear ideas. It is in this way the system is strengthened. The team have played 4-3-3 in some phases of the season and there are good things there that we must take advantage of -and others we must try to strengthen.
We start from the reality that the players must be convinced that within that formation we can progress. We will look at everything. Tomorrow we have a difficult game against opponents who have a long-time coach. They play well with the ball. We know it will be difficult, but the important thing is us and how we are going to continue on the path of improvement to be more competitive.
When will Kluivert and Thierry be able to return?
They are both out. Thierry has a problem with his hamstring, a delicate muscle. Justin's is still out. We don't hide anything. We also still have Nico out. We are only looking at this game and I am not thinking about whether they will be available against Athletic. We need everyone's help, but we come into this one off a great level of exertion due to the many games we've played.
